Quick reference
Factory-recommended intervals for 2021–2025 F-150 under normal driving. Ford’s Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor (IOLM) adjusts oil timing from real use—treat mileage figures as maximums, not fixed targets. See the towing section for severe-condition adjustments.

Engine-specific — don’t mix up your parts
Five different engines mean different oil filters—and sometimes different capacities. Using the wrong Motorcraft filter is one of the most common DIY mistakes on this generation.

Per Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor
Every 2021–2025 F-150 uses Ford’s Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor—it tracks load, temperature, and trip patterns instead of a fixed mileage counter. Under easy highway use it often lands between 7,500 and 10,000 miles (12,000–16,000 km); heavy towing or short cold trips can trigger closer to 5,000.
All of these engines typically specify 5W-30 meeting Ford WSS-M2C946-B1 (confirm the under-hood label). Capacities and filters differ: 2.7 EcoBoost uses cartridge FL-2062A; 3.5 EcoBoost, PowerBoost, 5.0, and 3.3 typically use spin-on FL-500S.

Every oil service
Rotate about every oil change (~7,500 mi (12,000 km)) and measure tread. Inspect pads and rotors every six months—towing and heavy payloads accelerate wear. 4x4 trucks that mix highway and dirt need this discipline to keep ABS and axles happy.
Every 20,000–25,000 miles (32,000–40,000 km)
Replace every 20,000–25,000 miles (32,000–40,000 km) or annually, whichever comes first. Behind the glove box on most trucks—no tools. Signs it’s overdue: weak HVAC airflow, musty smell with A/C on, or a dark filter when removed. Dusty jobsites and pollen seasons justify earlier changes.
FP-92Motorcraft cabin filter for many 2015–2025 F-150s (supersedes FP-79; Ford.com may also list FPP92)—confirm fitment.
Every 30,000 miles (48,000 km)
Replace about every 30,000 miles (48,000 km) under normal use. On dirt roads, jobsites, or wildfire smoke, inspect at 15,000. A restricted filter on a turbo EcoBoost costs boost response and fuel economy.
FA-1883Common Motorcraft panel filter for many 2021–2025 gas F-150s—verify on ford.com/parts by VIN.
60k EcoBoost · 90–100k V8
EcoBoost plugs are typically due around 60,000 miles (96,000 km); the 5.0L Coyote often runs 90,000–100,000 under normal use. Critical wrinkle: the 3.5L EcoBoost (and PowerBoost) changed plug specs between 2021 and 2022—SP-594 vs SP-596. Confirm year and engine before ordering.

Severe service / high mileage
Towing, commercial use, and deep water mean earlier axle and transfer-case fluid changes than the “normal” chart. Inspect axle fluids around 30,000 miles (48,000 km); replace if discolored or after hard off-road use. 4WD transfer case fluid is commonly due around 60,000 miles (96,000 km) when you tow.
The 10-speed’s MERCON ULV is marketed as “lifetime” for light commuting—not for a truck that regularly pulls a trailer. Many owners service ATF at 60,000 miles (96,000 km) under severe use.
XT-12-QULVMotorcraft MERCON ULV for the 10-speed—do not substitute generic ATF.
XT-8-QAWConfirm current Ford / Motorcraft spec for your year.
If you actually use your truck
Ford’s standard intervals assume normal driving. Regular towing, heavy loads, jobsite dirt, or extreme climates count as severe use—and the schedule shortens. This is where many F-150 owners under-maintain the truck.
3.5L PowerBoost — XLT, Lariat, Platinum, Limited
PowerBoost pairs the 3.5L EcoBoost with a hybrid drive unit and Pro Power Onboard. Core engine service mirrors the gas 3.5L (FL-500S, 5W-30, same spark-plug year split)—but the hybrid system adds its own checks.
Do not stretch oil intervals just because it’s a hybrid. The gas engine still runs hot when towing or using the generator—follow the same 5,000–7,500 mile (8,000–12,000 km) severe oil schedule if you work the truck.

The real math
Overdue EcoBoost oil → turbo / timing issues
Vs. monitor-based (or 5–7.5k tow) oil changes
$3,000–$8,000+
Wrong oil filter for engine → starvation risk
Vs. ordering FL-2062A vs FL-500S correctly
Engine damage
Neglected ATF under tow load → 10-speed failure
Vs. MERCON ULV service around 60k severe
$4,000–$6,000+
Neglected 4x4 fluids after hard use → axle work
Vs. fluid services
$1,500–$4,000+

Ford’s Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor typically triggers between 7,500 and 10,000 miles (12,000–16,000 km) under normal driving. For EcoBoost engines that tow, haul, or see short trips, most owners and techs prefer 5,000–7,500 miles (8,000–12,000 km). The 5.0L V8 can often run 7,500–10,000 on quality full synthetic under highway use. Spec is usually 5W-30 meeting Ford WSS-M2C946-B1—confirm the under-hood label.
2.7L EcoBoost uses Motorcraft FL-2062A (cartridge). 3.5L EcoBoost, 3.5L PowerBoost, 5.0L V8, and 3.3L V6 typically use Motorcraft FL-500S (spin-on). They are not interchangeable—confirm your engine before ordering.
2.7L EcoBoost: SP-594 (qty 6). 3.5L EcoBoost / PowerBoost 2021: SP-594; 2022–2025: SP-596. 5.0L V8: SP-515 (qty 8). 3.3L V6: SP-515 (qty 6). EcoBoost plugs ~60,000 miles (96,000 km); V8 often 90,000–100,000.
Yes. Under severe/towing use: oil every 5,000–7,500 miles (8,000–12,000 km), transmission fluid around 60,000 miles (96,000 km) (don’t rely on “lifetime” ATF), inspect axle fluids every 30,000 miles (48,000 km), transfer case ~60,000 on 4WD, and brake fluid about every 2 years. The 10-speed is especially sensitive to neglected fluid under tow heat.
Engine air filter for many 2021–2025 gas F-150s: FA-1883 (~30,000 miles (48,000 km)). Cabin filter for many 2015–2025 F-150s: FP-92 (~20,000–25,000 miles (32,000–40,000 km) or annually). Confirm on ford.com/parts by VIN.
Same core schedule as the gas 3.5L EcoBoost—FL-500S, 5W-30, and SP-594 (2021) or SP-596 (2022+). Add hybrid battery checks at oil changes, annual 12V aux inspection, 2-year brake fluid, and HV coolant checks per Ford. Don’t extend oil intervals because it’s a hybrid if you tow or use Pro Power Onboard.
