Check your transmission before buying fluid. 2014–2018 Corollas came with a 4-speed automatic (Toyota ATF WS) or a CVT (Toyota CVTF). They are not interchangeable—putting ATF in a CVT can destroy it. The door-jamb sticker and VIN decode will tell you which you have.
The engine oil drain-plug washer isn’t listed with a part number on this page—confirm by VIN before ordering. The 90430-24003 washer listed below is for the transmission drain plug.

Engine oil & filter

Toyota specifies 0W-20 full synthetic for the 2014–2018 Corolla 1.8L 2ZR. Capacity is about 4.4 qt (4.2 L) with filter. 5,000 miles (8,000 km) is the safe real-world interval for short trips and city driving.

Always replace the drain-plug washer at every oil change (confirm by VIN—90430-24003 on this page is for the transmission drain). Torque the filter to spec and check for leaks after a short run.

  • OEM oil filter04152-YZZA1

Every 5,000 miles (8,000 km)

Tire rotation

FWD Corollas eat front tires. Rotate at every oil change. Typical lug torque is about 76 ft-lbs—confirm in your manual.

Check tread depth and sidewalls while the wheels are off, and look for brake pad thickness and uneven rotor wear. Re-check tire pressure to the door-jamb placard.

Alignment drift shows up as feathered front tires—log a pressure and tread check in Carmainty every rotation.

Every 15,000 miles (24,000 km)

Cabin air filter

Behind the glove box on most cars—10-minute DIY. Replace sooner if vents smell musty or airflow drops.

Updated PN; earlier 87139-02090 also fits many 2014–2018 trims.

Every 30,000 miles (48,000 km)

Engine air filter

Protects the 2ZR from dust. Inspect at 15k if you drive gravel or dusty roads.

A dirty filter hurts fuel economy and throttle response on a small four-cylinder far more than on a larger engine.

  • OEM engine air filter17801-YZZ05

    2014–2018 1.8L (2ZR-FE & 2ZR-FAE). Supersedes 17801-0T030 / 17801-21050.

Every 2 years / ~30,000 miles (48,000 km)

Brake fluid flush

Toyota specifies DOT 3 for these years. Dark fluid or a spongy pedal means flush now.

Brake fluid is hygroscopic—it absorbs moisture from the air, lowering its boiling point and corroding calipers from the inside. Flush by time, not just mileage.

  • OEM brake fluid00475-1BF03

Toyota DOT 3 · full flush often needs ~1 liter.

Every 60,000 miles (96,000 km)

Spark plugs (iridium)

Factory iridium plugs. Worn plugs cause misfires, rough idle, and—if ignored—catalytic damage.

The 2ZR has coil-on-plug ignition. Inspect each coil boot for oil contamination while you’re in there.

CRITICAL: Do NOT use ATF in a CVT.

Around 90,000 miles (145,000 km)

Coolant & drive belt

Use Toyota Super Long Life Coolant (pink/red)—never mix with green conventional coolant. Inspect the serpentine belt for cracks after 60k; part numbers differ 2014–2016 vs 2017–2018.

Replace the belt if you see glazing, cracks across more than a few ribs, or hear squeal on cold starts. Inspect the tensioner and idler pulleys while the belt is off.

Every 2 years

Battery & multi-point inspection

Test the 12V battery every two years, and more often once it’s past year four. Clean terminals, check hold-down hardware, and look for swelling or white crust. A weak battery in cold weather is the most common “won’t start” call on this generation.

Add a recurring battery-test reminder in Carmainty so it lands before winter, not after.

If your Corolla lives in the city

Severe use & short-trip maintenance schedule

Most Corollas do the opposite of highway cruising: short commutes, school runs, stop-and-go traffic, and cold starts. Toyota treats those as severe service—and on a 1.8L that holds only ~4.4 qt (~4.2 L) of oil, conditions that stress the oil are especially hard.

If your typical trip is under 5–10 miles (8–16 km), the engine rarely fully warms up, so moisture and fuel dilute the oil. Change oil every 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 6 months—whichever comes first—and don’t push the interval out.

CVT models only

CVT fluid care

The Corolla’s CVT (K310/K312) uses a belt-and-pulley design that is more sensitive to fluid condition than a conventional automatic. Toyota calls the fluid “lifetime” in some literature, but real-world owners and independent shops almost universally recommend a periodic drain-and-fill.

Use only Toyota CVTF (00289-CVTF0) and a new drain washer (90430-24003). A drain-and-fill typically takes ~3.7 qt (~3.5 L)—not a full flush. Don’t use pressurized flush machines unless the shop confirms they’re approved for your CVT.

CRITICAL: Never put ATF in a CVT, and never put CVT fluid in a 4-speed auto. The wrong fluid can damage clutch packs, the belt, or the pulleys—repairs often run into the thousands.
